Japanese Diet: How it works

The Japanese diet is a type of diet that prioritizes the intake of small portions of food at meals, a few meals a day, with low consumption of milk and dairy products, sugar, fatty, and industrialized foods.

It is a diet based on a diet rich in fresh vegetables, cereals, soy, fresh fruits, fish, and seafood that help in the proper functioning of the intestine, eliminate excess liquid from the body, and accelerate metabolism, promoting weight loss.

As it is a very low-calorie diet, it is recommended to do it for 7 days. However, despite being popular and having simple principles, it is worth mentioning that the Japanese diet has no scientific proof of effectiveness.

How to make

The Japanese diet consists of just 3 meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. These meals consist mainly of fresh vegetables, fruits, eggs, fish, cereals, soy, and seafood.

In addition, it is important to drink a minimum of 2 liters of water a day to stay hydrated and help control hunger, and teas are recommended throughout the day as well.

Allowed foods

  • Foods that can be consumed during the Japanese diet are:
  • Fish and seafood, such as tilapia, bass, boyfriend, shrimp, squid or octopus;
  • Lean proteins such as eggs, chicken and lean beef
  • Soy and derivatives such as soy, tofu, miso, natto or edamame;
  • Cereals such as rice, bread and pasta;
  • Fresh fruits such as papaya, tangerine, orange, kiwi, pineapple or banana;
  • Vegetables such as spinach, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, radishes, pickled vegetables, peppers, tomatoes, bean sprouts, or eggplant
  • Seaweed.

In addition, in the Japanese diet, daily consumption of teas, especially green tea, is also important to increase metabolism and help with weight loss.

Foods that should be avoided

The foods that should be avoided in the Japanese diet are mainly:

  • Dairy products such as milk, yogurt, or cheeses;
  • Red meat with a lot of fat, such as picanha, flank steak, lamb, or lamb;
  • Excess fat, such as margarine, cooking oils, such as soy, sunflower, and ready-made sauces;
  • Foods with sugar, such as breakfast cereal, granola bars, sweets in general, and soft drinks.

In the Japanese diet, it is also essential to avoid the consumption of processed foods, such as fast food, frozen ready-to-eat foods and ice cream, as these types of foods can hinder weight loss.

Japanese diet menu

The following table provides a 4-day menu for the Japanese diet:

Breakfast

  • 1 cup unsweetened green tea + omelet with 1 egg + 1 kiwi
  • 1 cup of unsweetened coffee + 1 dessert plate of salad with leaves, tomato seaweed, and a medium slice of smoked tofu + 1 persimmon
  • 1 cup unsweetened green tea + 1/2 whole-grain French bread with 1 scrambled egg + 4 small strawberries
  • 1 cup of unsweetened coffee + 1 omelet with 1 egg, tomato, and parsley + 1 banana

Lunch

  • 1 dessert plate filled with sautéed cabbage, carrots, peppers, tomato + 1 grilled tilapia fillet + 2 tablespoons of rice
  • Lettuce, arugula, cucumber, tomato, watercress, and cilantro salad at will + 1 medium grilled chicken fillet + 1 tangerine
  • 1 yakisoba meal plate made with soba noodles, shrimp, carrots, bamboo shoots, edamame, cabbage and seasoned with ginger and soy sauce
  • 1 grilled rump steak + 1 dessert plate full of peppers, onions, sautéed chard, and zucchini + 2 col. boiled rice soup

Dinner

  • 1 dessert plate full of stewed eggplant, broccoli, and zucchini + 1 stewed sea bass fillet + 1 tablespoon of cooked rice
  • 1 dessert plate filled with green beans, mushrooms, and red peppers sautéed together with 1 tablespoon pasta + 1 grilled boyfriend fillet
  • 1 dessert plate full of steamed cabbage, cauliflower, and carrots + 1 roasted salmon fillet + 1 tablespoon of cooked rice
  • 1 dessert plate full of soy salad with tomato, cucumber, and bean sprouts + 1 grilled chicken fillet + 1 tablespoon of cooked rice

This is just a model of the Japanese diet that varies according to the preferences and caloric expenditure of each one. Because it is a very restricted diet in nutrients and calories, this Japanese diet should be done for a short time and, preferably, with the help of a nutritionist.

Japanese diet care

Because it is very restrictive and with very few calories, this Japanese diet can cause problems such as dizziness, weakness, malaise, changes in blood pressure, and hair loss, when done for more than 7 days.

Also, this Japanese diet should not be taken by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Just as it should not be done by children and people with changes in eating behavior, such as compulsion, anorexia, or bulimia.

This summer’s big cocktails

Cocktails are a big thing in the UK, so make sure you’re ready with a stack of delicious and refreshing drinks to sit back with or drink with friends!

Cold pasta with fresh rocket pesto, cherry tomatoes and pine nuts

In summer there is one dish more than the others that attract our attention and fills the tables of all Italians: cold pasta! Perfect for lunches to be consumed under an umbrella, it is a riot of taste and colors.

The recipe that we present to you today is a variant that we like a lot: instead of the usual basil pesto we have chosen for our cold pasta that of fresh rocket, with pine nuts and walnuts, to be enriched with cherry tomatoes, olives and corn and sprinkle with Parmesan and Pecorino, before devouring it with gusto!

Ingredients (4 people)

  • 250 grams of wholemeal striped farfalle
  • 80 g of wild rocket
  • 50 g of Parmigiano Reggiano
  • 50 g of pecorino romano
  • 10 walnut kernels
  • 10 g of pine nuts
  • A clove of garlic
  • 10 basil leaves
  • 100 g of pitted olives
  • 100 g of datterini tomatoes
  • 150 g of corn
  • Extra virgin olive oil and salt to taste

How to prepare cold pasta with rocket pesto

Start preparing the cold pasta by boiling the water.

Start preparing the pesto: it will only take a few minutes if you already have all the ingredients at hand. In a powerful mixer insert the washed wild rocket, walnuts and pine nuts, basil, garlic, Parmesan, and pecorino, add strictly raw olive oil (about 4/5 tablespoons), and a pinch of salt.

Run the mixer for a few minutes (depending on the power of the appliance) until the mixture is homogeneous. When the pasta is al dente, drain it and put it immediately under cold water to stop cooking.

In a large bowl, season the pasta with all the ingredients without following a specific order. Add the pesto only at the end!

Mix well and add, if necessary, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and an additional sprinkling of Parmesan and pecorino. The cold pasta with rocket pesto is ready to be brought to the table.

If you want to eat it later (perhaps on the beach under an umbrella if you are at the sea, but also in the shade of a bench in a park, after all, summer also arrives in the city), you can use the Virosac food trays. , perfect for storing food in the freezer and fridge, for heating in the microwave, and for taking cold pasta wherever you want to consume it!

Murgh Methi Malai Chicken recipe

Murgh Methi Malai Chicken is a creamy and flavorful chicken dish. While it’s easy enough to make, it tastes like something special you’d like to order at a good Indian restaurant!

The beautiful fragrance has to do with how the ghee used in cooking acts as a solvent for the essential oils in the spices. The fenugreek leaves called for in the recipe lend an amazing, earthy flavor to this recipe, which goes very well with freshly prepared Naan or Chapatis.

What do you need

  • 1 kg of chicken pieces, skin removed and marinated with …
  • For the marinade: 12-15 cloves of garlic
  • 3 “piece of fresh ginger
  • 8 whole dried red chillies
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of freshly ground black pepper powder
  • For the powdered Masala spices: 2 teaspoons of cumin seeds
  • 3 teaspoons of black pepper
  • 2-star anise
  • 2 x 1 “cinnamon sticks
  • 6 green cardamoms
  • 3 black cardamoms
  • 12 cloves
  • A large pinch of grated nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons of coriander seeds
  • 5 bay leaves
  • Other: 3 large onions, to be transformed into large pasta
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable / rapeseed / sunflower / ghee oil
  • 1 and 1/2 cups of skim milk
  • 5 tablespoons of heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons dried Kasoori methi (or 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh fenugreek leaves)
  • Salt to taste

How to do it

  • Use a food processor to make a fine paste of ginger, garlic, and dried red chilies. When the pasta is ready, add salt and pepper. Stir in the chicken pieces and set them aside in the fridge to marinate for 3 to 4 hours.
  • Now to make dry masala powder: Lightly toast the coriander seeds and bay leaves and grind to a powder.
  • Make a powder of the remaining spices without roasting and keep them aside.
  • Heat a non-stick flat-bottomed skillet over medium heat. When hot, add the onion and brown it lightly, adding a little salt to cook the onion first and caramelizing it easily.
  • When the onion paste darkens, add the marinade and chicken, stir and cook over medium heat until the chicken paste and masala mixture begins to release its own fat.
  • Now add the ghee / vegetable / canola / sunflower oil. Stir to mix well.
  • Then add the powdered spices and continue stir-frying for another 3-5 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat slightly, cover, and cook for about 10 minutes, or until the chicken is ready.
  • Then pour in the milk, adjust the seasoning according to taste and bring the pot to a boil.
  • Then, pour in the cream and follow with the crushed kasoori methi.
  • Mix well, cover, and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the aroma of fenugreek is absorbed into the gravy.
  • Serve hot with freshly made Naan or Chapatis.

Some suggestions:

You can add as much fenugreek leaves as you like, but be careful that the gravy doesn’t turn bitter.

You can adjust the seasoning by adding a little lime juice or even yogurt.

A little more cream will make the dish even tastier.
