Garda Vetting
As part of your employment as a care worker in Ireland you will be required to go through Garda vetting to work with the vulnerable. QQI Qualification or Experience
Many care employers ask for a QQI Level 5 qualification in Healthcare Support or similar. Some employers, however, will consider applicants with relevant experience of direct care work over a number of years. This would usually be considered alongside or in place of formal qualifications.
Manual Handling and Mobility
This role supports people with movement, personal care and household tasks. You would require a manual handling certificate and be able to perform the physical aspects of the role on an ongoing basis.
Communication Skills
Clear communication using English language is a requirement for a Care Assistant. This is needed for implementing a care plan and to give care in daily situations. Also, to report any concerns to a supervisor or manager in a clear and adequate manner.
